Giving up on my PPC6601...

Well my fellow bloggers, Im giving up my Sprint PPC6601. I've had just about enough of the dreaded "screech of death". Im not sure how many of you have this phone or one of the variations, but during a call every so often the earpiece would emit a very loud screeching noise. It would not go away until you end the call or reset the phone. All is not lost though. Im giving it up for a PPC6600 (camera version) I became aware that the reason Sprint delayed the launch of the camera version was so that they could work out some of the issues that the 6601 had at launch. And it just so happens that 6600 has a higher firmware revision than the 6601. It also happens that there is no known fix for this "screech of death". Well to make a long story longer, I spoke to enough people in customer service and stated my case. Guess who has a 6600 arriving on Tuesday as a warranty replacement? ;o)
You didnt really think that I was giving up on the best PocketPC Phone Edition out there...Did you? Stay tuned for alot of new post on Tuesday...

Thanks for the heads-up on the "screech of death" supergadgetman. Is this problem resolved with the PPC6600? BTW, you had me going there for a minute -- I was thinking "don't tell me he is going back to a treo or some other lacking PDA!"

Welcome aboard limesparks! Thanks for the great links. It's clear from your post that you are enjoying the device. I'm curious about web performance with Sprint and the PPC600x. Can you elaborate on this aspect?

Wow!!! That kind of speed is

Wow!!! That kind of speed is enough to cause me to reconsider my TMobile GSM/GPRS service-- even though it would require me to get a new CDMA/EVDO device. However, given the high price of the GSM Blue Angel devices, I might be able to break even with an eBay sale of my PDA2K coupled with a 2yr contract w/ Sprint or Verizon to get the 660x. Hmmm...I think I feel a new "need" coming on ...

By the way -- check your private messages ;0)

Hello xman! And welcome aboar

Hello xman! And welcome aboard limesparks! I do consider myself quite lucky to have been "under the radar" so to speak wih the beep of death issue. I wasnt aware until later that there was a fix for it. The Sprint rep obviously wasnt either. Well anyway I am holding in my hand the 6600. Is it me or does the 6600 feel so much more solid than the 6601? Especially the slide mechanism. It seems that they might have tightened it a great deal because it does not feel as flimsy as the 6601 did when I first got it. And you gotta love the camera. Especially the video light (staring blindly into his video light as if under a spell) "Ohhh....so pretty and bright" lol
I have been holding off installing my apps onto the 6601 because I did have my heart set on the 6600. Now I can begin my installation routine which will take me quite some time. Wisbar, Resco explorer, Journal Bar, GSPlayer, Doom. Just to name a few. Well, im going to get started now. I think im going to enjoy this ride...

Dude, what is this "video light" of which you speak? Do elaborate --the xman is intrigued.

The noise is fixed by the update. It's an easy fix.

Hey xman, The video light is

Hey xman,
The video light is what comes on the CDMA Camera versions of the HTC Harrier that Sprint sells. They opted out of the built in wi-fi and chose to instead have the camera version. It is a video light for taking video in low light. It also acts as a flash for snapshots. And let me tell you, it is very bright indeed. Do the wi-fi versions of the HTC Harriers come with a camera?? I would much rather have the built in wi-fi over the camera, but I guess you cant have it all. When the new "low profile" wifi sd cards with built in memory come out soon, then I will be in wireless connectivity bliss!!

I'm considering getting the 6600...
my current phone is dying and I want something cooler than just a normal sidekick.

how much more abuse can this take than a normal ipaq?
