xman has moved to the dark side

Yes, there has been a serious disturbance in the force. I have been unquestionably drawn over to the Dark Side.

This post is via my spanking new EVDO enabled Palm Treo 700W just moments after stepping out of my local Verizon Wireless store! I debated between the Treo 700W and the XV6700 but decided to throw caution to the wind and take a walk on the wild side.

I'll pass on the Sprint PPC-6700

Well, I came eXtremely close to ordering a PPC-6700 from Sprint, but decided to call around to see if any local Sprint stores had live units that I could inspect prior to making the plunge.

The hunch paid off and I found a Sprint PCS store at Park and Preston in Plano that had a demo unit that I could play with. After 10 minutes with a live PPC-6700 the verdict is ... Drum roll .... I will wait.

Windows Mobile 5.0 on iMate PDA2K!!!

Yes!!! The wizards on xda-developers.com have done it again. For those of you who do not know, mamaich and company have successfully hacked up a WM5 software load for the HTC Blue Angel class of pocketpc phones.

Click "read more" for details and step-by-step instructions.

The upgrade process is non-trivial and not without risk, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

After reviewing the experience of those who took the leap (including many who decided to revert back to WM2003 SE), I decided to give it a shot this morning. Well, after several hours of use and tweaking, this puppy is staying on my machine beta or not!!!
